The Iğdır University Center for Applied Research on Cultural Heritage Preservation was established as a unit affiliated with Iğdır University based on the regulations published in the Official Gazette dated July 4, 2010, and numbered 27631. These regulations encompass provisions regarding the center's purpose, fields of activity, governing bodies, duties of the governing bodies, and working procedures. The center's establishment was approved by the Higher Education Council with the letter dated February 29, 2019, and numbered 5850160-101.04-E.17474.

The Center plays a significant role on a regional scale in Iğdır. Its primary mission is to document, preserve, and promote the rich cultural heritage of Iğdır. By examining historical artifacts in the region, the research center collects scientific data and develops projects aimed at transferring this heritage to future generations. The center contributes to raising public awareness by educating the local community on the value of cultural heritage and seeks to keep this heritage vibrant through cultural events. Focused on Iğdır, the center undertakes a crucial role in preserving the history and identity of the region.

Goals of Iğdır Cultural Heritage Conservation Application and Research Center:

1. Documentation and Research: Documenting Iğdır's cultural richness in detail and conducting comprehensive research on these documents. 

2. Restoration and Protection: Restoring and protecting the historical and cultural buildings in the region. In this process, focusing on current restoration techniques and ethical rules.

3. Education and Awareness: Organizing training programs for local people and young generations emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage. Raising awareness by creating sensitivity to cultural heritage in society.

4. Interaction with Other Cultures: Sharing and interacting the culture of the region with other cultures. This means increasing intercultural understanding and putting the cultural richness of the region into a broader perspective.

5. Academic Collaborations: To develop joint projects in cooperation with universities, research institutions and similar organizations and to encourage knowledge sharing in the academic field.
